    Lightbulb Dream Camera Deal

    Look ... if Canon really wanted us to upgrade our great cameras and promote the EOS 40D, they'd have an active trade-in program, giving you credit for model purchases you've already made.

    Such as:
    20D = $500 off the 40D SRLP
    30D = $750 off the 40D SRLP
    5D = 40D & $250 check
    1Ds= 40D and several "L" lenses of your choice

    Or something like that.

    Okay, okay ... I'm waking up ... quit shovin'

    Remember: It is usually the GLASS, not the camera (except for moving to Full Frame), that gives you the most improvement in your photography.

    I suppose Canon would "refurb" them and resell them to third-world photographers or other "not quite ready for the brand-spankin' new EOS 40D" bunch.

    There's also this guy -> Used Camera Buyer

    Keeps the world happy?

    I bought my 20D with the intention of upgrading when the 40D was released.

    If it really does come out beginning of next month, I'll probably wait until closer to Christmas before I buy it. Let some of the review sites check it out and all that.

    There's nothing horrible about my 20D, but I like new toys.

    If the price is right I may buy one, it would be nice to have a camera that could focus consistently again...

    Hey CW, what's going on with that EOS 1D MkIII focusing issue?

    I just caught wind of it ... you seeing it happen?

    Yes, but inconsistently. I shot over 3,000 frames of AFL in the past few weeks and it did a great job.

    Yet at last week's wedding there were plenty of failures.

    A great camera, but AF makes me very nervous at the moment.

    Maybe we should be hoping that the 40D doesn't have 'improved' AF...

    Missed the focal mark

    Well, the word over at POTN is that "other" folks are seeing this problem, too. I heard they might be addressing it with a software fix ... so I think I'll hold off on getting mine for ... umm, a year or two. LOL

    After my experiences with the S3 IS and the S5 IS, I was not pleased with its autofocus performance, either. It was supposed to have all that advanced sensing ... and it seems to occasionally lose it's mind and just focus any which way. I would surmise that same software enginnering group could be involved with the new EOS 1D MkIII.

    This is hard to hear ... especially with the impending EOS 40D release. Could be a whole new crop of surprises coming out of that one. Quality control has recently taken a major dive across the industry. The last company I saw with QC problems like this was ... well, they went and invented the "Edsel", back in the 50's. The "Wonder Car." You figure it out.

    Best of luck in your final solution, CW. I know I'd be plenty torqued about it. Doesn't take much to send me on a crusade.

    should focus on lenses and not camera body's

    I remember someone saying a $1500 dollar lens on a $500 dollar body will look better than a $1500 dollar camera with a $500 dollar lens.
