    my current favorite

Hey guys....this is my current fav picture from the grand canyon this summer...I hadn't even realized I took it, but I saw it coming in my "my pictures" screensaver & really liked it. What do you think?

(also, this is the first time I uploaded a pic to this forum & I wasnt sure how to make it the right size...so any tips for that would help too. Thanks!)

Love the lighting, but is that noise in the background? - what ISO was this shot at?

400 i believe....It actually looked better on my cpu until I tried making it lower quality and "saving it for the web" in photoshop. What do folks usually do to upload photos to this site?

Thanks michaelb. I guess it's far from perfect though ...

Here's another one I took that night:

It was part of an incredibly stuffed shopping window (which I will have to reshoot later on, my old 256MB CF was filling fast at that point).

Nice. Where at the Grand Canyon did you take that picture?

(also, this is the first time I uploaded a pic to this forum & I wasnt sure how to make it the right size...so any tips for that would help too. Thanks!)
I normally use a width of 800 pixel as this fits on most people screens without scrolling and then select the picture's jpeg quality according to its complexity (in order to keep below the max. size limit).

I hiked down S. Kaibab Trail to Cedar Ridge (about 1 1/2 miles down) and snapped this one around 7 am, before turning back. (already over 80 degrees by then too!!....too bad you can't photograph the heat!)

Rookie efforts? I don't think so! Those sunsets are awesome. I love the vertical flare. You did a great job with the sailboat silhouette.
That brings so much more interest to the shot than a "plain" sunset would have. I say pick your favorite, frame it, and hang it on your wall!!

"Glitter" has good colors, and you're doing a good job finding subjects and getting in close. It was shot with a shutter speed of 1/10 second,
which resulted in a blurry shot. That's because our human hands can't hold the camera very steady. Probably at the focal length you used,
you could only hold it steady for 1-30 - 1/45 sec. Anything longer than that, and you'd need to support the camera with a tripod,
chair, box, etc. to avoid camera shake.

Some great shots here. I'll be looking forward to your next ones!
