well, to be honest i am more than happy with my sigma 50 1.4, it's just amazing for portraits and low light, maybe i am one happy case, but what, cannot the lens be calibrated by sigma if really needed? i mean c'mon almost 2/3 of the 24-70 need a trip to canon, and after that everyone builds them altars, so why would it be such a bad think to do the same with a sigma?

That would be ok if Sigma's service was superb... but you hear mostly horror stories, and Sigma requires that you send your camera in to be calibrated with the lens, as if they couldn't get a 450D, 50D, or 5D off of the shelf and do it themselves. I'm all for alternative lenses... but I don't think I should have to ship lens and camera for 2-4 weeks and risk getting back something that's not even calibrated properly (which has happened) and Sigmas aren't exactly reliable. See lensrental's sigma saga story
http://www.lensrentals.com/news/2008...the-sigma-saga
And the failure rates
Sigma 120-300 f2.8 90.00% Zoom mechanism, calibration, autofocus
Sigma 120-400 OS 44.44% OS, Autofocus, zoom
Sigma 150-500 OS 45.45% OS, Autofocus, zoom
Sigma 50-500 33.33% Zoom mechanism, autofocus
Sigma 100-300 f4 25.00% autofocus
Canon 17-55 f2.8 IS EF-S 17.39% IS, Err99
Sigma 18-200* 16.67% barrel failure
Canon 10-22 EF-S 15.79% barrel separation
Nikon 17-35 f2.8 14.29% calibration
Sigma 30 f1.4 14.29% calibration
Nikon 80-400 11.11% Electronic issues
Nikon 70-200 f2.8 VR 10.53% zoom mechanism
Canon 100-400 IS 12.25% Zoom tension ring, Err99, calibration
Canon 50 f1.2 13.3% Calibration
Canon 85 f1.2 11.66% Electronic issues
Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS 4.12% IS, Calibration
Sigma leads the way in failed lenses. I really want to like the 50mm sigma, and I was ready to buy it, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it... so I'll wait until Sigma fixes the 50 before I fix my lens collection.

Something a little different for me.
Last month when I was in Jackson, I was fortunate to see JJ Grey and Mofro perform at the Mangy Moose.

Thanks for the input, do you use Silver Efex Pro for B+W and Sepia alterations? I'm debating picking up the plugin but I'm not sure if it's worth the $99

well I can't tell you step by step of replicating that because not even I can because I keep refining and refining layers until I get what I want
ok so here's a quick example, I did a quick remake of it today with less layers (its not perfect because I did it in a minute to show an example)

See what I did with the Curve layer? I went RGB -> Blue and pushed the bottom corner point up
by itself it doesn't do much, but with the other curve layer with say, Red and pushed down into the green section it creates that "bluey" effect
Gradient in a radial reverse to darken the background (yeah you can burn but I prefer gradient because its smoother and faster for me) and selective colour is my opposite of curves
usually when I do a lot of curves, I get unwanted oversaturation of certain colours, usually yellow
so I go into selective colour and pick the colour I want and usually lessen its effect or make it more white
usually Black+Yellow minus (eg -70/-40) does the trick
I hope that helps
really YOU have to experiment, that is the only way you'll learn
and always try using multiple layers, if you don't like doing that then thats fine, but its definitely something to try
ok thats enough about me

I really like the last one, the dog looks really cute and guilty, like you caught him doing a poo or something
