a few from this weekend. and one of that is my first try on insects. pity have no macro capable lens (17-40 appears also no help here), so this image was taken with a kit cheapo, heavily cropped.

Gary that really is a stunning shot.

Michael B - It isn't HDR but I did use the shadow/highlight function in photoshop. I assume it does almost the same thing, toning down the highlights and bringing out detail in the shadows. I think it works well and you only need one exposure to do it with (as long as there are still details to use)

Gary, that shot is incredible. You should take it off Creative Commons and sell it for sure.

Thanks so much everyone for the kind words.

Gintaras, I didn't do anything fancy to keep the sky and foreground balance, except this. I read somewhere (Bryan Peterson, I think) that when the sun is too bright, you can diffuse it with a tree or branches, which is what I was doing here. I was trying to hide the over-bright sky behind the leaves so I could capture the fog. Once I saw the framing was so nice, I started moving around to find the right spot, then I started turning down the EC until I stopped getting blown highlights (except for the sun itself). Mostly trial and error, and I have 27 other versions of this shot to prove it!

Personally, I'm in favour of Creative Commons (CC) all the time... CC doesn't allow this photo to be used for any commercial purpose, so I am still able to sell it to any company that wants it. CC does allow the rest of the non-commercial internet to use it for blogging, etc... and I want my photos to be available for that. If someone is writing a poem about quiet fall mornings, then they are free to use this photo to help make their point. I've had several shots appear in other places, and I've always been credited, and I just LOVE to see it.

And besides, its only 800x600.... not much good for anything except blog posts!
