New to forum, just acquired my Canon Xsi yesterday and still very new to the whole world of SLR photography. In the stages of just playing with the camera I took a few pics of roses I bought for my wife and would like to know what you guys think.

I was at my friend Jean's the other day, letting Seamus "run like the wind" in her large field. I had taken him for a long walk earlier that day, so he didn't run too much. Mainly ambled around. ....

I like the framing of this, but the dog looks a bit soft to me. Is the focus a little off perhaps? I think a little bump in contrast and saturation might help here too.
