Delobbo; that pano just rocks. Out of curiosity, how many shots is this and how do you figure your exposure?

Rooz, Michael, thanks for kind words. in fact i am trying to learn find and capture the situations and angles, and it appears to be a steep learning process. sigh... i am readying myself for D700, plan take this next year if Canon does not yield. meanwhile i remain amazed at tiny kit lens i have as i tried 17-40L and to my surprise i did not notice critical improvements in the images except for less chroma and barrel distortion… sharpness was better but not anything that would make me complain about kit lens. Probably when i buy D700 i will hand XTi to my wife and buy a new IS kit lens…i still recall how i trashed that small lens in the first days before rediscovering and feel shame.

NO! - not another convert to Nikon!!

Seriously though; even the "low-end" Canon and Nikon dSLR deliver amazing IQ. I sometimes think of ditching my 5D and going back to just using the 40D. The 5D has a great VF, nice performance at high ISO, a little better resolution and can provide very narrow DOF at large aperatures, but most of the time my 40D images seem just as good.

I like the B&W one better. The colors are just ok in the color one.

That B&W shot is very nice like I mentioned before.

I agree about the IQ comment. I'm actually surprised that there are so many jumping ship to Nikon! I've often wondered what it would be like on the other side but there are just too many other things I'd like to experiment with first like TS lenses etc. and do you really think your images are going to get better?.... I think you should buy gear so that you can do stuff you can't do with your current gear not just for a few extra features.

I've been thinking about buying a medium format 6 x 6 camera lately....

Nick and Michael...seriously...everyone should pick up a D700 and shoot with it for a while. Once you understand how it works...a smile will start across your face. It is not just about image quality. It's about an entire approach to the photographic experience. It just ooze's smartness (with a couple of minor annoying foibles that I noted over in the Nikon DSLR forum). I genuinely have found it a cathartic experience...

delobbo, thanks... actually wish i can learn take images i saw in your gallery, love panorama and HDR in the other images.

    JTL, thanks for tip.

Michael, Nick, my purpose with D700 to get FF, otherwise I would not be thinking of switching sides. 5D is nice but is old tech while D700 offers latest tech and is as good if not better than 5D. why canon refuses to issue an update to 5D remains a mystery for me while i do not fancy paying tons for Mark serie.

Canon is only a couple of weeks away from announcing the 5D replacement. It will one-up the D700 in some areas (e.g. MP) but not others (e.g. AF). I didn't wait because I really didn't care what Canon was announcing. The D700 had everything I wanted/needed and was available so I bought it. But since you are not planning an immediate purchase, you might as well wait for the announcement and availability of the new Canon and do a side-by-side compare...

Somebody...please post a picture and get the thread back on track!
