Blindeye: thanks! And the loss of detail is actually in photo 2. I prefer the way #1 looks- in number two the highlights under the eye kind of drown out some of the scale detail. At least on my monitor...

Faisal: i'm thinking about picking one of those up soon- Over the weekend I found that for my portraits I liked 17mm, 28mm and 50mm but sometimes I just wanted a bit more lenght and a little less DOF. I will of course, rent one first

01514...nice motor shot shots, love the yellow lambo shot....I'm assuming you've added the blackness around the car....nice idea to remove the distractions....

Thanks Faisal. It was pretty dark in that room with black walls and just some lights on the cars so I just went all black and painted over whatever mas not black

thanks - I think the trick is the wide aperture (these are at 1.8), ISO 800, and also you have to catch them when they are staying stationary as possible. Sometimes they will freeze and just stare at you, that is picture time.

My mistake... I meant to reference #2 in my previous post, not #1.

Here's one for today, and for your appreciation, Cory. I brought in a piece of furniture from the garage, and a visitor came with it.


Same setup as before with the black alumalite, 2x 285's, but this time with the 100mm macro. Any funky color issues here? I used a piece of black foamcore to mask out any stray reflections from the background this time.

Not only is an 85mm on my list, but either a set of kenko tubes or a long macro lens like the 100mm or sigma's version.

I converted from RAW to JPG in DPP, then adjusted levels and removed debris in PS CS3, and finally resized in ACDSee 10. I've noticed that both CS3 and ACDSee do strange things to EXIF, in spite of the fact that I have them both set to leave EXIF intact.

I highly recommend the Canon 100mm macro. You mentioned having a macro lens before, which one did you have? I've only used the 100. I've been thinking about a set of tubes myself, but there seems to always be something else ahead of them in the budget.

Blind: all my old macro shots were with the S3/ S5 and a Raynox macro lens up front. Doesn't quite work the same on an SLR lens... I guess technically my Sigma 28mm is macro- but that doesn't count :X
