Don't know about what is real skiing cause I highly doubt I'll do either.....but living in the middle of the desert (well almost) I think a lot of people would take this kind of skiing any time as its waaaaaaay cheaper than taking a flight to their home country....
They're supposedly opening another bigger snow complex in a year time....that'll be more interactive for non skiers....can't wait

Faisal: I must admit- I am envious of you. I hope you know how lucky you are to live where you do. I don't want this to devolve into the plusses or minuses of one culture or place vs. another but simply put- Dubai is experiencing one of the wildest economic booms of all time and many wonderful and impressive sights are being built there. I can't turn on the TV here without hearing about some marvelous new structure that pushes the boundaries of man's architectural and technological prowess- and most of these wonders seem to come from Dubai.
I know that's the point- to get tourists to come and marvel at these wonders. But for someone who lives there, this means the photographic opportunities are nearly limitless and ever changing!
Phew.. i'm done being.. whatever you'd call that...

I know what you're saying...I've been here a very long time and have seen things change. Some for the good and some more for the bad....
Unfortunately all these marvellous structures are under construction....even after completion I doubt most of their amenities will be open to not so rich people like me. Though I'm sure I'll be content with the tourist spots that will be open to the world but at what price I don't know.....
All this boom has made money a very important aspect of life especially with inflation going through the roof (apart from petroleum weirdly). Living in Dubai is said to be as costly as maybe Tokyo, London and New York. Not everyone can afford that (especially an unemployed person like me for now). I'm happy to be at the middle of this boom, but I'm not sure if I'm ready to pay for all of it especially seeing that fact that after even being born here, spending 99% of my life here, I still can't call this my home country (they don't issue citizenship to outsiders like me ) even though I am more loyal to this place than maybe many of the locals...
Regarding photography....there is an annoying thing over here...The biggest project of them all, The Burj Dubai, tallest structure in the world has not been view in its fullest glory for the past 4 months by me. Reason being due to the dust and pollution that lingers in the air due to the construction and heat which makes the tower vanish unless you stand right next to it. Also any photography is hampered by permissions, heat and sand. It's pretty annoying!!!
I'm done ranting....
