Beautiful, colorful late afternoon Spring scene...yet rendered fairly flat and lifeless with low-contrast and no depth or "pop" by the Sigma. I have no doubt that I would have been much happier with the same scene shot with my 24-105 L IS. But, I've been shooting the Sigma exclusively for the last week or so trying to convince myself to bring just one lens with me on my next trip to Europe...but...alas...I'm not convinced! It's back to the party snapshots for the Sigma! And back to two lenses in tow for my standard rig.
When I got the 5D, I got the kit simply because it was cheeper to do it this way, thinking that I might sell the 24-105, but I've been quite happy with it - its sharp even wide open with nice colors and contrast, plus I love the IS.
On FF, its like having a 15-65 f/4 IS on a 1.6X crop, which is a perfect walk-around range for me. It also has a nice MFD, which even gets better with 20mm of ext tubes.
The only negative is obviously the f/4 limitation and the distortion at the wide end on FF. Otherwise, its a very versatile lens with good IQ. I've heard many people who have owned both say its sharper than the 24-70.

Nice one, Michael. I like the colors and the composition a lot. However, I'd prefer some more DoF: the sign is in focus enough to read it if I work at it, but blurry enough to make it work, if you know what I mean.

Thanks Adam.
This was at f/6.3, 25mm on the 5D - It was difficult to decide on a DOF with this one. It was intentional to only have that first tulip in the foreground in focus. I wanted the sign to be blurry, but readable, and the other tulips to fade into a backsplash of colorful spots. But I too would be curious to see what this would have looked like at a higher f-stop.
