finally got to take my gear out for a run yesterday at my sister's graduation. i thought the light was a bit tricky with it being late in the afternoon and it being cloudy all day.

i would have like to stop the aperture down a bit, i think i overreacted to the low light and opened it up too much
but all comes with practice

Nah! I think you nailed the exposure. If you had stopped down any more the background may have become distracting. As it is, the subjects are well exposed, well isolated and in focus. I think you got it just right. Nice shot.

I've been posting a lot over in the flower thread, so I thought I'd put this one here:

I forgot and left it at iso200 when I took the shot Plus I resized the original file to 50% before uploading to Pbase, and then Pbase resized it some more

I pretty much took the shot with the camera right out of the box. I latter on played around and got familiar with the menus and user definable settings So far I'm loving it. One thing that does stand out is the grip on my S3 is way more comfortable than the XSi ... LMAO!!!

Then all that resizing must have gotten to the quality or my screen is showing noise as ISO200 on DSLR = no noise...
You'll get to figuring out the Menus, it took me about 3 months to bump up my in camera settings (fed up of PP by then )

Here's one I took a few days back...Dubai is said to have 25-30% of the worlds total cranes (obviously not the bird)....Its the second fastest growing city (literally) after Beijing supposedly.....So basically in ever part of the city you look, you'll see a lot of cranes...

I just saw Droopy upgraded to the 450D

YES I have, but what really concerns me is that I kept finding that my XTi photos on the EXACT same thing (fur, flowers, text) were much sharper than my XSi photos. After taking numerous photos I swapped the lenses between them to make sure I didn't get a bum camera. I found that the Japanese 18-55mm IS lens I bought back in December (for my XTi) is noticeably sharper than the Taiwan made unit that came with my XSi. I'm going to keep my Japanese made one and sell the rest of the stuff I don't use (XTi, 18-55mm IS-taiwan, 28-105mm, etc.)

The first thing you notice from the 450D / XSi crops in the middle column is they're relatively soft compared to the models on either side. As also seen on Canon's previous DSLR, the EOS 40D, the company appears to be applying relatively modest in-camera sharpening by default. This is a sensible aproach as you can always add sharpening, but not take it away from an over-sharpened image. So like the EOS 40D, the new EOS 450D / XSi's images can certainly stand additional sharpening, either with an extra notch applied in the Picture Styles, or using software on your computer later.

That said, the softness isn't entirely down to in-camera processing. We found the EF-S 18-55mm kit lens which came with our earlier EOS 400D / XTi actually delivered slightly sharper and punchier output than the newer Canon EF-S 18-55mm IS in the EOS 450D / XSi kit - this is particularly apparent in the crops taken from towards the edges, like the third row of crops. To be sure we repeated the tests using both lenses mounted on the EOS 450D / XSi and noticed the same result. This is the first sample of the EF-S 18-55mm IS we've tested, so we look forward to seeing if other samples exhibit a similar effect.
