Got hold of an EOS-1D Mark III for this weekend. Good timing as there is a V8 Supercar Race on at Eastern Creek for the next two days.
A steepish learning curve as there are many areas which operate differently from the EOS-1D Mark II N - will just have to get used to it I guess. Here are some tests to show noise performance at high ISO.
EOS-1D Mark III & EF 85mm f/1.2 L II USM. 1/200s @ f/2.8, ISO 3200. JPEG from RAW in DPP with zero NR:

Thanks for the post. I'm looking forward to more of you thoughts about this camera. I put in a preorder with Adorama, then cancelled it several days later, after reading comments on POTM. It seems that owners of both the 5D and the MIII thought the image quality was about the same. I don't need the 10 fps, but the weather sealing and 1.3x sound good to me. Anyway, please keep the information coming.
I hesitate to get the 5D because I like a crop factor. But, I like the idea of the IQ of the 5D. I don't care about the EF-S lenses, I can replace those focal lennghts with EF lenses. I very seldom use the 17-55 anymore, so that would be no big loss to me. But, having the 30D as a second body would give me the FF with the 5D and the 1.6x to use for wildlife.

That's some pretty incredible glass you got there. Wish I had 24-700 lenses. I think you made a typo there though. I'm guessing 70-200 lenses? Nice allround kit.
Unless you want to keep a second camera you might be consider selling your 30D and EF-S glass and purchasing a Soligor 1.7x TC to shoot your wildlife.
I would have definately given serious thought to loosing the f/2.8 and IS of the 17-55 but if you aren't using it much then I can't see much of a reason to hold onto the 30D. If you wanted a 2nd camera then I'd probably lean towards a 1D for the same price as the 30D and pick up the faster shutter and AF for times when you need it for BIF or Sports.
