Sold my 70-200 F4L! I'm sick of it's...
lack of IS. Bought 70-200 F4L IS.

How is it canon can add weather sealing and 4 stop IS to 70-200 F4L and have price go up 500$ but they can't make the 17-55 better built for same price?

Congrats on the upgrade! IS is great to have.
Anyone want in on the pool for when Tim upgrades to the f/2.8 IS?
The 17-55 is Adequately built in my opinion. There is no need for it to be weather sealed since it only works on non weather sealed cameras. Sure I'd like it to have the build quality of my white lenses but I don't have a problem with the build quality of my 3 non Ls- the 17-55, 10-22, and 85 f/1.8.
I just tried my first cheap 3rd party product- the 1.4x Kenko. Works fine but what a piece of cr%p in term of build quality. I guess I'm spoiled. Now that I'm used to having the IIN I look at the build quality of the 30D as just adequate.
Next it's time to get my hands on a D2Xs for a weekend. I'm thinking of trading in my 30D/17-55/10-22/85 f/1.8 for one of these and just keeping the IIN with 70-200, 100-400 and future 300 f/2.8 for sports.
I'm not sure yet but I think the D2Xs is going to be nicer to shoot with for low ISO portraits and landscapes than the 30D or 5D.

Nah, 2 hours walking around in hot woods with 30D, 70-200 F4L, bag, 17-40L and a flash is enough weight for me.
Anyway the 2.8 doesn't interest me as much long end (I know nuts eh?) as it does wide due to more of my "no flash natural indoor" shots being wide not long. Not real sports guy here.

That is a wonderful lens you got there then! I am jealous....
It is quite a bit sharper even than my 70-200 f4 L, has great bokeh and that IS... yummy.

Well that's pretty weak.
Had order canceled due to "coupon error" 10% off deal suppose to exclude this lens.
Was gonna be 900 vs 1K :/
Anyone know any good deal spots for it?

The D2Xs better at high ISO? Whatever gave you that idea? It is quite bad at higher ISO settings, and the 5D is eons better...

Except he didn't say high ISO, but low ISO.

Oops, thanks for pointing that out.
Still the D2Xs is not better in lower ISO though. The 5D is a bit more dynamic, and less soft (a strange softness the D2X(/s) has that I do not really know the reason of).

I think you need to add the item to your cart and get all the way to the 'confirm' step to see the instant rebate take effect. Should be around $925??
I just got my 70-200 f/2.8 IS off amazon last week for a hair over $1500 shipped.

Nope, that price is "after" the 75$ discount, final step shows 1K for it.
