Any good rumors about a D200 replacement??

I've hesitated to post this thread over the last few days, but here it goes...

I'm in the market for a D200 body but I was wondering if anyone has heard or read of an impending refresh of the D200 series.

Before anyone posts "just get it, it won't be obsolete just because it's replaced", I have the advantage of putting the purchase off if something is coming soon.

I will definitely need to pick up the body before football season starts, around September 1, but if those in the know can tell me that the D200 isn't being updated for a while, I'll probably get it in the next few weeks. I'm getting by with just one body for now but last football season made me wish I had two, one with the 80-200 and one with something shorter.

Sony is finishing a follow-up sensor from the 10.2mp sensor design that is used in the Nikon D40X/D8-/D200, Pentax K10D and Sony A100 DSLRs.
This 12mp sensor will probably be ready in the 2nd half of 2007.

So my guess is that a follow-up to the D200 will not be announced before the photokina, and then it will still take a while before they will be available... so I do not think you should wait on a new model.

I would STILL consider the D200!
Even if they do replace it - it would have to be a really class act to be a substantial improvement over the D200 and 12mp over 10 mp isn't much - unless of course they've managed to do something AMAZING with the new sensor (unlikely!!)
