Nice harbingers of spring. Here are some from a couple of cemetaries near my house.

Golfed to death; this is in the community cemetary on the hill above our house:

    And some a bit older:

These are in an old family plot just 30m from our house; some have engraved dates going back to the Genroku period (late 17th century).

Norm--that golf ball memorial is very odd.

Yes, he was the son of the owner of a golf practice range down the hill from us.

For some reason, that strikes me as the kind of thing you'd only see in Japan or Texas.

People get upset (sometimes) about photographers in cemeteries. I'm glad there was no one around (mostly) at the Los Angeles National Cemetery on a Saturday in December.

SpecialK--I really like the composition on #3, especially the way only the stone in the foreground has visible text. But it looks a little washed out--overexposed?--to me.

It was a gray overcast day. But, the red flower looks OK, the stones are not white, and the black looks black - so I think it is acceptably close.

These are at Hollywood Forever cemetery, whose website says they have some famous people - but they kicked me out about 1/2 hour after I got there, bothering no one, but peeking in the building shown at the bottom....
