Night club action camera
Hi,
I take photo's in nightclubs and the camera I have isn't very good and the photo's always either are too dark or need a lot of work.
I'm looking for a digital camera that will take photo's in low light and can take shots of people moving around that aren't too blurry.
I'm not looking to spend too much money though and can probably go to about £150.
am i asking for the impossible?

For your budget you're looking at a non-DSLR, so you should have a look at some of the Fuji compacts like the F20, or their subcompact Z3. The newer Z5 is a bit beyond your budget I think, but might be worth checking out.
The reason why these Fuji cameras are so good in low light is because they have good image capability at higher ISO's (higher ISO's allow the camera to be more sensitive to light), and you'll need this in order to capture pictues of moving subjects that are not too blurry. Note that they are NOT miracle workers. High ISO images are grainier than ones taken at lower ISO's, and in very dark environments, the shutter speeds required may still be too slow to completely freeze subject movement. But, on your budget, the Fujis will do a better job than other cameras.

bigger budget
are there any digital SLR's that would suit my needs for between £200-£400.
I've been looking on ebay and there seem to be some relatively inexpensive

It's not just the DSLR body but also the right lens that you'll need for the job. Most of the cheap DSLRs on ebay probably only come with a kit lens with a max aperture of around f/3.5. To do the job properly, you need a fast lens such as the Canon 28mm f/1.8, Nikon 35mm f/2.0, or the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 - any of which would cost you 2-300 quid over the cost of the body. You'll also find you get very narrow depth of field at those wide apertures, so you'll have to be spot on with focussing.
Your best bet on a limited budget is to follow Stephanie's suggestion of one of the Fuji models - perhaps the F30 if your budget stretches a little further.

Get a used Canon 10D off eBay. You can get one for around $350 US. as good as the 20/30D but you have ISO 3200 and a solid body unlike the the rebels. and 6.3 megapixels is good enough for anyone that wants to print up to and beyond 20X30 inches.

Better than a rebel any day.

If you are playing around in nightclubs a dSLR is going to be bulky and heavy. If you're doing this professionally that would be fine. If you are going there to have fun then a compact camera like the F-20 may make more sense.

i agree with the Fuji adherents, but I would prefer the more advanced F30
its such a small capable camera, you can get by security with it, and not be inconvenienced by bulk.
cheers

ok you guys.... He is posting in the DSLR section and he has asked twice for a DSLR. Why would you try to sell him a point and shoot? He is obviously trying to get professional quality pictures here.
n00dlz, here is a link from amazon for a 10D that is $490. You can probably save $100 or more if you buy off ebay. These are great cameras to buy used because they have a magnesium alloy body and they are rated for 100,000 shots with the shutter until they need maintenance. They also go up to ISO 3200!

im not confident he can get both a dSLR camera and lens for the budget allowed capable of low light shooting in the chosen environment. A cheap F4 lens with manual focus wont do it, it needs to be quality kit if its a dSLR.
