nikon 5200 -- red eye reduction???

I need help deciding on a digital camera... I have a very active 4-year old and I am constantly getting red eye on my photos. The nikon 5200 supposedly has a red-eye reduction/elimination capability...

Does anyone have experience with this camera or can someone recommend a camera that has "good quality" red eye reduction -- especially with a young child???

I believe that the red eye reduction is automatic on the camera...I'm not sure on that.

The one part I'm sure on though, is that you can use software to eliminate the redeye quite easily. Probably the easiest package of them all to do this with is the nikon software that should have come with your camera. If you know photoshop, reduction there is really easy too. Most software packages make it quite simple to do this with.

I just bought the 5200, and the red eye reduction is automatic. (It is a small pre-flash that is suposed to dialate the eye before the flash to eliminate red eye) I have tried it out and with light eyes in dark situations there is still red eye. As stated before it is easy to take out in post processing.

Red eye is common with point and shoot cameras because the flash is so close to the lens. It kinda comes with the territory. But all in all the 5200 is a great camera.

Red eye among kids is more common. Their eyes seem slower to retract than adults that I photograph. My suggestion is to find a program to edit the red-eye out. There are some that do it automatically, however I love Corel Photo House to do it manually. One of the brushes paints on in a blur which makes it look more natural and you can find tip the brush to put the twinkle back in their eyes! It even works if their not looking directly at the camera!

AS A THUMB RULE, EERY COMPACT CAMERA WILL POSE A PROBLEM OF RED-EYE. I MEAN, THE CLOSER THE FLASH IS TO THE LENS, THE GREATER IS THE POSSIBILITY OF RED-EYE.

BUT, U CAN READILY CORRECT THE SAME USING ANY GOOD PHOTO ENHANCING SOFTWARE AFTER TRANSFERING THE PIC TO YOUR COMPUTER.

Hi,

I have to decide between Nikon 5200 and Sony P150.

On the Sony forum I was strongly biased to Sony P150. People there didnt even say a thing about Nikon 5200.

I hope I will get some information on performance of 5200 on this forum.
If someone could compare these both cameras based on their personal experience it would be great!

Nikon has great scene modes but does the lack of any sort of manual control (except for white balance) prove a bit harsh at some times?

Is the Auto Bracketing feature really great?

How is the movie mode in the camera?

There are many features on the Nikon CP 5200 to recommend it. You might want to check out the very good review done by Jeff Keller right on this website.

Design-wise the 5200 is essentiall a P & S digital camera with 15 scene modes. The only manual feature on this camera is the white balance. It does have a custom or manual white balance setting available.

As far as bracketing is concerned, you can use both exposure and white balance bracketing. So bracketing is a good feature on the Nikon CP 5200.

The movie/video clip mode is also impressive and worthwhile. Take a closer look at the video clip mode, when evaluating this camera.
Consider, rather closely, what you want to find in the digital camera that you purchase. The Nikon 5200 may indeed be the perfect match for you.

Thanks a lot for your advice since I started looking for cameras.

I thought I should let you know my decisions ! You helped me a great deal.

I have finally decided to get for myself SonyP150 or SonyP200 depending on deals available. I think I will wait for the PMA show since I heard camera prices might drop after that.

I will get Nikon 5200 for my sister since she doesnt want any manual controls and likes the true "Point n Shoot".

I hope things work out well !
