Thanks so much the Chris, we'll you know where to stop by and post some pics. I may have to forego the 18-200mm in leiu of the 70-300mm as a walk around... my next lens should be 70-200mm f/2.8... I tend to do most of my shooting at the long end and the 70-300mm from what I've seen is sharper and the picture quality is better at 200mm. Oh and it's cheaper and available. lol but alot of people like it including me but I don't think it's going to be a fit.

    Hey Xailo,
Nice pictures, the colours are beautiful. Welcome to the Nikon board. I hope you'll have lots of fun with your camera and take many great pictures with it.

About the lens, I think that the 70-300VR and the kitlens will make a nice kit, allowing you to take great pictures in almost every circumstance (except low light sports).

Thanks Prospero, I agree... it's going to be at least a couple of months before I can pick it up. There are a couple of other lenses I want to pick up first though. then there's the matter of a light weight tripod, head, and sb800 by GOD's grace.

Just wanted to throw in, I got my D40 yesterday - DAMN that thing is AWESOME Now I understand people talking about having the problem to put it out of their hands I knew from some grabbing tests at the local electronic megastore that it has a very fine build quality, but the shutter seems to be build excellent as well - it's a real "shooting & taking" photos feeling you get using this cam. Not too loud and the right mix of electronic & mechanic sound, if you know what I mean. And the display - WHOOHOOO - thats brilliant! Viewing angle, contrast, brightness, sharpness - outstanding, never seen such a thing before.

I really enjoy this cam, hope I can contribute some worthy pics in the future. Excuse me for spamming your thread XaiLo, next time, it's pictures - promised!

Think nothing of it Chris, that's what this thread is for and besides I thoroughly understand your enthusiasm with the build quality it is very impressive indeed. Can't wait till spring watching everything come to life again. I want to capture it all. lol Congrats Chris.
