Which ultra-compact?
Hello all can you give me few pointers?
I have a Canon 5D with a few L series lenses and I'm really very happy with the image quality. That said, it is just not practical to carry around all of my kit, all of the time. I'd like a super-compact that will easily fit in a jacket pocket so that I can carry it with me all the time. I have shot a few frames in a shop with the Panasonic FX50 but was disappointed with the noise levels, the Ricoh Capia R5 seemed slightly better. I have yet to find or try the FX30, or the Canon SD800. Here are some specifics...
Budget
Not too worried
Size
Ultra-compact - it MUST fit in a pocket, a G7 for example is too big
Features
I would say 7ish
What optical zoom will you need?
Must have 28mm (equ. obviously) and would like 100mm min. at the long end.
How important is “image quality” to you?
Very, I would like the best image quality possible within the given constraints
Do you care for manual controls?
I have enough trouble caring for myself! am happy with manual control but it is not essential although I would like to be able to select ISO to avoid the noisy end of the range.
General Usage
* Mainly daylight, people and landscapes
* No, but may be used in a magazine at 300dpi
Will you be shooting a lot of indoor photos or low light photos?
No
Will you be shooting sports and/or action photos?
No
Miscellaneous
Are there particular brands you like or hate?
No
Are there particular models you already have in mind?
SD800, FX30, Ricoh R5 ?????
(If applicable) Do you need any of the following special features? (Wide Angle, Image Stabilization, Weatherproof, Hotshoe, Rotating LCD)
Just the wid angle, although stabilisation would be good too.
Any help and suggestions truly appreciated
Ian
