resolution or quality - FZ20 storage question

I have planed a vacation to Chile in the next month and I go there with my new FZ20 and 1GB of Memory. That are about 400 photos in "fine mode" or about 800 in standard.

I haven't enough time to try out the real differences between the two settings. But I believe that some shots will be good enough with lower resolution or higher compression. But what is the better choice? Will it be best to buy just another SD-Card and leave the cam at it's highest quality settings?

    What do you think?

Do you go to Chile every year? if not get more cards or sometype of storage,
X drive - Laptop or something. And get another battery or so.
I can take 800 pictures a day when on Vacation.

Many vacations are a once-in-a-lifetime kind of thing. Of course I don't know if that is your situation, but the advice above is good. 400 pics really isn't a lot for a vacation (it was when photography was only on film). Also, I think you should shoot at high resolution only. You never know when a potential Pulitzer prize-winning shot suddenly comes along.....

fer sure bring plenty of battery and memory.

you can of course gain some space by culling bad shots from the card.

    The last resort

i'm sure you can find a studio where you can put your images on a CD straight from the SD card.

    Same issue here...

I have the same problem for my upcoming trip to Honduras. I have two 512 cards but that won't be enough. I was thinking about an external drive because I wouldn't dare take my laptop with me--it's a medical mission to very small villages. I do plan on filtering out some bad shots with my PDA but I know 1gb or so won't be enough storage.

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced durable external drive for us?

    Thanks

Thank you for your answers. I think I take my 35mm camera with me now too (it offers more wideangle and I think that may be of importance) and maybe I'll find a cheap sd card in a shop near by.

was in costa rica last month. internet cafes are not hard to find. many hotels have machine(s) for guest internet use. as andy.ro comments, if you brought along a card reader and usb hard drive or some r/w cd's you would likely find a computer someplace you could use to move files from the camera cards to other media.

    Thumbs up

I just bought a Kingmax 60x 1 Gig SD card at NewEgg for 70.00. 2 Gigs of memory should do ya.
