    McNaughton's comet

I know this photo is less than good quality and poorly framed ect but I have posted it for it's interest rather than its photogenic qualities.

It is McNaught's Comet which is visible in the southern sky around sunset, in Perth, Western Australia, today at least.

I had to use full optical zoom and bumped up the iso to 400, with a 4 second exposure, but my little Canon sd800 did as good as it could.

As I can see this comet is best seen in the south hemisphere.

Nice shot Grant, looks like you got a better view on the west coast than what we got here in Brizzy.
    Cheers

    McNaughton's Comet from Adelaide Hills

This is my first attempt at photographing this amazing sight. I was driving home from interstate travel and first thought out of the corner of my eye I was seeing an aeroplane burning and falling from the sky, the phenomenon was so bright and the tail arched for around 40 degrees.

This image was taken with an Olympus EM-1 camera with 50mm lens, time exposure to approx 5 minutes. The ambient light was about zero as it was well after sunset. When opening the orf files, this is how Photoshop automatically adjusted the RAW import. The photo is quite blurry and hopefully tonight I will get a better chance at taking a clearer shot.

    Smile Final Attempt at McNaughton's

This image was taken on 26/01/2007 on the coast of Yorke Peninsula, South Australia at around 9:50 PM. Time exposure approx 5 minutes using Olympus EM-1 digital SLR with 25-54mm lens. It's still grainy but at smaller zoom factor looks OK. Asking a bit much when the sky is actually pitch black.

    Top shot

Thats a great shot Peter. A five minute exposure!! You must have had a rock steady tripod.
