On something that expensive I'd want it checked out.

Yeah I don't exactly want to advertise this to CPS. They are very generous as long as you play ball by purchasing through the official channels IYKWIM.

What does CPS consider to be the "official channels"?

CPS won't service a lens you buy used?

Just tell them it was used, the guy who had it had it serviced, you don't have paperwork.

If cps burns you over buying a 400 2.8 used that's pretty much insane considering your probably more likly to buy other high end canon glass once you've got a 400 2.8. (Sorta brand locked at that point I'd think)

Refurbished only means "canon" if it was factory refurb, was it? A lot of higher end camera shops do their own canon service.

You can actually order pretty much anything canon service has from them too and do it yourself if you were so inclined.

Go to the link to adorama that C-Dub provided. It clearly states "Refurbished by Canon USA" in the titles of all those Canon products listed. I doubt CW's 400 said different.

From a service perspective it's all fine, from a sales perspective it's like shitting on the hands that feed you.
