I recently purchase a new Canon Rebel XTi and after researching I decided I want to go with the Canon 28-105mm lens. I think this lens will fit my budget and experience with digital photography very well. Before I purchase this lens I need help finding a vendor that sell the specific model type for this lens. After reading an article about this lens I found out that buying this lens on Ebay can be risky. Can I purchase the Canon 28-105 Mark II Made in Japan lens from an online vendor? If so please link me. It must be made in Japan and not the Taiwan version. Thank you!
You might check out the "Where Should I Buy My Camera" forum and/or check the reseller ratings of anybody you're thinking about. I've used Beach Camera, Adorama, and B&H with excellent results and price.
I've got the Taiwan version and it has a bit of lens creep. Other than that, it's a fine little lens. Perhaps I might not be as picky, but, I'm not going to worry if it's made in Japan or Taiwan.
I dunno, when I had the lens I wasn't impressed and got rid of it.
Why not think about 28-75 tamron F2.8?
Tim
Where is the Tamron made in? Does this lens have IS? At first I was thinking of sticking with Canon Lens because I have a Canon camera. But maybe I should get a third party lens.
Just keep in mind that 28mm is not very wide with a 1.6X crop sensor.
To get wide angle you could pair your 28-105 with one of the two options below:
1. Purchase a kit lens (18-55mm) for your wide shots for about $90 on Ebay. I've used mine for a long time and have gotten great shots out of it (in good light).
2. Or you could get an ultra wide angle (Canon 10-22mm, Tokina 12-24mm or the Sigma 10-20mm) but these are pricey. This is what I will do.
By the way, have you considered purchasing a used 28-105 on a site such as Fred Miranda's Buy and Sell forum? This is where I got mine. http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/
Also, you should definitely consider picking up a Canon 50mm f/1.8 for about $80; it feels like a cheap toy, but is capable of amazing shots and allows for lots of fun with depth of field.
Here are a couple of pics that I took yesterday with my 28-105 3.5-4.5....
