Howdy all, stumbled across this site today and WOW, lots of good info.
I've dabbled in photography since Jr. College learning on an Minolta X700 35mm.
My first digital camera was a Sony cybershot, but I had many problems with that camera. Last October, my loving wife agreed for us to upgrade and I got a D90.
Welcome to the forum Scotty.
Apart from the great info there's also some good picture threads here too where where you can pick up ideas to try.

Name is Steve, Age 49, married, 2 kids (11 & 22), from Ontario, Canada. I've been shooting 35mm SLR most of my adult life, now we are all digital. We have a Fuji S2000HD, Fuji S8100FD as well as a couple old small ones, Fuji A330 and Kodak D340 (antique!). Looking at the Fuji S1000FD for the 11 year olod for his coming birthday. We decided against DSLR's because of the extra we'd have to carry around to get the features of an Ultra-Zoom.
Welcome to the forum bubbbab. Hope you enjoy hanging around here and more to the point hope your kid enjoys the camera. There's plenty of interesting threads with both photos and tips.

Hi all. I've been reading this forum for a while and decided to come out of the shadows. I'm a Nikon shooter for no better reason than that's the shop I walked into to buy a camera.
I'm also an avid SCUBA diver and have a D80 for above the water and a Sony DSC-300 for under the water. I currently live in Dubai, I've been building a water park for the last three years, but since no one wants to build a water park now I'll be returning to the U.S. to Utah.
I enjoy photographing fish and landscapes.
This is probably as much of me as anyone will ever want to see.
Sorry to hear about the job front, hope it all works out.
