K1W1...Where was that taken? And what is the vinegar used for?

On the waterfront at Townsville in north Queensland (January 2007?). That's Magnetic Island in the background.
The Vinegar is to treat jelly fish bites, they are a real problem there at times during the year. In most places the only safe way to swim is with a full coverage "stinger" suit (a very thin wet suit basically) or in specially netted off areas on the beaches.

    Info here.

Ahh FNQ. Well that makes sense then. Not too many beaches in the world probably have vinegar at peoples disposal like that though. I didn't see any at the beaches I went to around Cairns/Airlie Beach or places I went to in the Daintree though, but didn't get all the way to Townsville either. I didn't swim in the water up that way though (except at the GBR out in the reef), only opting for the public pools they have up there.

Thanks for the comments, Eddie and DPR. DPR, I really like your butterfly picture. I think butterflies are rather difficult to shoot. They scare very easily, and their size makes that you need quite a lot of DOF to get a nice picture. You did a very good job here.

TheKoopaBros, I really like those shots. Beautiful colours, and I like the shallow DOF.
    Dollface, nice shot. Beautiful colours.

I'm going to that Townsville and many other places in North Queensland in July. Luckily this month is supposed to be outside the jellyfish season

I already posted this one in the insect thread, but I thought I would post it here as well:
