To me the focus point (intentional or not) ended up being on the t-shirt. Thta is sharp enough that I don't think it was a blurry from hand-holding as much as focus point. The f/1.8 does help with this, since it shows a difference between the foreground that is soft, and the background that is much less discernable.

The picture reminded me of something that used to make us laugh when we lived in SF.
We were constantly amazed at the number of people taking photos where it was obvious that a trash can was going to appear in the image and it got to a point where we used to joke about it all the time.

Oh man I just noticed that. Haha!! You're right, for some reason trash cans will always appear in the picture someway, somehow.
