DPR - I was just wondering about camera settings for the 2 flashes

I am somewhat a begginer with this flash gun but I have not ever dabbled a great deal with flash anyway. I like the idea of using the camera flash as a front fill and the SB600 to light the ceiling.

(Also - as you know I am considering getting that lens - so you will understand my interest in the photo)

Chanukah on Ice ... they brought 3 long tables onto the ice, and everyone got to light a menorah. There was also a huge ice menorah, but dopey me forgot to take a picture of it. This is the rabbi taking one of the tables off the ice.

I was wrong earlier when I suggested it was wide open, in hindsight if I could do it again I'd open it up more. I took variants on the shot (most were wide open) but this was the one with best composition.

Funny how after getting 2 images that mean something for you, you can feel that an $800 lens has paid for itself. Here's the 2nd image that I love. I feel even with buying this lens now. How crazy is that.

It's my youngest son, severley disabled and so can't smile for the cam. Here's his Christmas day smile when getting his pressies. Pressie donated by a charity.

Hope I've not lost too much internet anonimity with this post.

Edit, the arm from the red t-shit is his 6 yo brother helping him hold and play the toy.

    Thanks Rooz.
Brought a tear to my eye typing. That shot is gold to me. If I had to trade $400 for that shot it'd be a no brainer - I'd buy the shot in a heartbeat.

Know what you mean guys, I have a few shots of family that I have taken and they are worth a million times over what I have paid for my modest little D40.

I would love to have bigger better camera like a D700, one of the guys from work has a D3, Wipe your mouths I can see you all drooling! lol

For me though there does come a point where I can't rationally justify buying a new body or that next lens. I think you have to have a balanced aproach in life, there are many needs that come before our hobbies and pleasures. Could I justify spending $1000 on a new macro lens, when my young sister is in need of a new brace, or my girlfriend is struggling to pay for her physio, No I can't.

I guess we are on playing around the fringes of ethics and philosophy here. The soloution .... Win the lotto of course!!!!
