I've got a little halo around the left edge but I'm guessing thats how the light really was, I only mention it in case.
Did you see the grand final? 100% dark side for all the player shots at the presentation ceremony (with one white body hanging as one persons backup).

This wild koala was at perfect portrait distance so I left the tammie on cam.
He/She it was in a tree at a lookout so I've enclosed the view from the lookout. What aplace to make home
Is a polarising filter the way to reduce the haze of distant landscapes?

Well, Geoff. I don't mean to sound so. . ."in the now", but if given the choice to shoot with the D80 or D90, I'd choose the D90. If I was asked, before my D80 broke, where I'd spend my money on a body upgrade - I'd say D700.
Now, I can appreciate your lack of enthusiasm for the larger, heavier bodies. But, if I was going to spend a year saving for a second camera, I'd make my D80 the back seater and get something fancy - Nikon has something in pipe for this spring and apparently its Big - I'd wait to see what that something is before I decided what to do with my money. I bought the D90 out of necessity, I may sell it along with the D80 when it gets back - I don't know yet. But, it certainly is a fun camera.
Do note that I think the update to the camera in your hand, is never enough to reason to upgrade. i.e. D80 > D90. I needed a camera and wanted the video. But, all else considered, and upgrade would be a D300-D700. Thats my .02 as of now.
I couldn't justify, or afford a D700 - nice as it is. I could do a D300 which on paper is my ideal camera - not so bothered about Video - or even live view - I have a reasonable P&S that does that for me.
I would just have to persuade the Arthritus in the wrists to hold off if I got anything heavier than the D80.
Still - let us all know how things pan out for you...

Geoff, will you be putting the P&S on the tripod instead of your DSLR? That's what Live View is for - so you don't have to contort your body to see the viewfinder when on a tripod. Personally I think it's great and I will never own another one without it.
