Lukas, thanks a bunch. It's nice to discover what you can get from a cheap lens.
Skupking, nice pictures showing the great minimum focus distance of the D40 kit lens.
If you're interested in getting closer for cheap, you might try the Canon 500D close-up macro filter: http://www.adorama.com/CA52CU250D.ht...lter&item_no=1
Here's one of my efforts from today with the 55-200mm VR:

Cool images Nikonians. Like flowers, like sea beach, like evening sun on the rocks
Rooz, Sam, your birds are just awesome, wish we had some of them in Alps. Unfortunately all I can capture is a couple of pigeons sh*tting on my terrace every morning, I am nearly to kill them.

Wow, that is some nice shooting!
So, what kind of vacation? Hiking and roughing it? Sorry if you gave trip details in another thread and I missed it.
Looks like somewhere I definitely want to try...

great image prospero, hard to believe it is a ghost town.
I thought about who I am... and realized I was an
unformed, unreconciled imagery, without "GOD"
NikonD?
and some other Nikon stuff
