I just looked at Adorama and there's one for sale for $659. Thanks for everyone that replied btw
I actually bought my backup D80 (body only) a few weeks ago from Adorama. The one I bought looked pristine and had just over 1900 shutter clicks on it. I paid $550 for it. I bought my first D80 from Adorama too back in January, traded in my D50 and paid the difference.
Now Adorama usually has used D80's around $650. The one I bought most recently had no box or manuals, just the body, cables, battery and charger, hence the $550 steal price. I got a MACK warranty on it just in case anything should ever happen.
To summarize: Used D80's are cool; Adorama is super-reliable and if I see a deal on their website I would jump on it.
Off-topic: May trade in my now repaired D80 for one of the used Fuji S3 Pro's on the Adorama website. Hmm...

One good thing is if you get a D80 - there are loads of D80 users here if you have any questions!
The D40 is more set up for a beggineer in IMHO - but does produce great results, it just has less things you can do with it. I quite like the D40 in fact and would be happy to have one as a backup.
The D80 requires that you input more yourself - but it has a lot of areas of automation if you want partial automation (too many to list) - this can help get you going with great shots.
good luck

jemr, wlecome.
thats quite significantly underexposed. i think you have either used the wrong settings or your flash was too far from the subject. what is the exif for the shot ?

Went to visit my parents the other day and snapped this quick shot of them. It s a little overexposed, but I thought it came out pretty nice regardless.

It seems like over time, I gradually improved my ways of taking better pictures. I learned a lot from my D40 but I want to learn more from a camera with better features. Should I keep pushing with my D40 and hold off a little longer on the D80? Has anyone made further improvements after upgrading to the D80 from the D40?
I have been considering the same as i would love to have a build in AF motor and the larger body. But ive decided to hold it off until the D90 (Hopefully it will be here by end of the year) As it will more likely have better features and I will have saved more money by then or invested in better glass!

Thanks for the welcome
Here's the exif for the shot
Camera: Nikon D60
ISO: 100
Focal Length: 55mm
Shutter: 1/160
Aperture: f5.6
EC: 0 step
Light source: Shutter priority
I did not use the flash as there was enough light (or at least that's what I thought).
By looking at this info, what would you have done differently? Should I use the flash even if there seems to be enough light?

Jemr, Which metering mode was that B&W shot taken in ?
It kind of looks like it was centre or spot metered...
