Actually you are absolutely right, there is no need for the tiny aperture. I was just goofing around with different settings in manual mode (still learning to use it, i usually use A/P/S) and this picture came out the best for some reason. But optimally you would want a bigger aperture.

Excellent shot, I love how you can even tell one of the cars on the right side got off at the exit . I've been wanting to do something like this for a while now but I have not found a good spot near where I live. I may just try the side of the road.
