    "toro"

this bee looked like he was gonna charge like a bull with his back leg up and all hunched over looking all nasty. love the angle i got this fella at and he conveniently perched with the green background behind him.

would have liked just a shade more DOF, maybe by one stop; but he flew off after the first shot when the strobes fired. i was lucky to even get this one.

sb800 top left. illumination with bounce card only. sb600 front right at 45deg fired directly at subject. iso 400 used to expose the greens and highlights of the orange on the bee.

Whoa Rooz, I'm allergic to those things, and that photo is almost up-close-and-personal enough to have a reaction!

    Rooz,

You are the king of bug photos!

Today, I managed to see some of Aviation Nation 2007. Here's one sample photo--For a wish list, a LONGER lens would be nice.

thanks guys. no bug this time.

my next project is a wooden carving of a dragon that i wanted to give a really dark, devilish appearance. i polished him up with some water to get as much reflection from the strobes as possible and it made the wood a darker colour.

sb800 top right with orange gel flter.
sb600 farrrrrr away front top left at -3EV

couldn;t figure a way to expose for the shadows as well without setting the strobe high right so the ridge of the eye cast the shadow into into his eye socket. as a result I blew the highlights on the leading edge of the top ridge of his eye, maybe could have moved the strobe a little further to the left of the subject. i also chopped the edge of his tusk on the left side. idiot.

Nice shot Daryl, I was there as well. I was very disappointed with my shots of jets in the air-I was shooting into the sun and there was a weird haze in the air (added in with the smoke trails of the jets). Where were you sitting at? Our family got there around 11AM and by that time all of the front row spots were taken so I was shooting way far back with my 70-200 and it was a joke. I feel your pain for a longer zoom.

Sitting? From around 10-3pm I was standing near the few media photogs located on the front-left side where the jets took off, but still to the right of where the three Thunderbird jets sat for hours--I was also late because I've been taking the Bengal back and forth to the veternary hospital over the last few days, kissing the new camera equipment bye-bye since yesterday's bill alone was just under $500 and this doesn't count the costs from the two days prior. Anyway, this also meant that the sun was off to my right when looking at the field and directly in my line of sight when panning right to left. Being surrounding by much taller individuals also restricted my panning.

I took this photo with the same set up, also from yesterday:

    Nikon D200
    70-200 F/2.8 VR, &
    TC-17E II
