thanks andy. that link is faved.

different lighting take where alot of flash comes thru into the front element of the lens, (sb800 positioned to right rear of rose shooting up and towards lens at 45deg allowing the petals to diffuse most of the light), creating a kind of "fogginess" that makes it more subtle. i noticed how it makes the contrast between shadows and midtones very smooth aswell. interesting result. i wonder how this will work for portraits.

Got bored at work while having a smoke break. I decided to play with the SB-800 and D70s (commander mode) using my coworker as the subject. All photos are unedited.

andy, what makes the pocket wizards seem to be such an important part of the strobist kit ? i don;t have any issues firing my strobes remotely, is that becasue i only use them close to the camera outside or indoors ? ie: is it a range and reliablity thing ?

Nice new toys Andy. I got my new toys yesterday. They are 2 umbrellas, 2 light stands and 2 umbrella swivel adapters for flash. Since I just finished exams yesterday I haven't had time to make any shots yet. But I found with one of the hot shoes that the SB600 won't go in, it will on the other one. I'll have to file it down when I get a second flash.

CLS is reliable for me indoors, but on an outdoor shoot in bright morning sun it wouldn't fire.

Thanks Rooz. I think even having 1 flash with an umbrella will be better than traditional bouncing. I'm sure 1 flash will do for me now until I can get a second one. I'll just have to make do with other things. Great work with your macros lately, nice to see you trying something different.
