Went to the fair for a short while today and decided to capture some "water in motion" as well.

Looking back I should have used the on board flash some for a fill on the drivers side, but I had it set to --. Something like 1/64th would have helped a lot.

Does the d40 have wireless commander? If not you will likely have to set the flash to SU-4 (assuming it's a SB-800) and let it trigger off the stock flash.

It's not smoke, it's clouds (literally). It's condensation. The aircraft is going at transonic speed and there's enough compression at certain points on the airframe that it condenses the moisture out of the air.
