I admire many of the shots in that group that use texture and other effects. This is my first attempt at texture and text (but not Orton.) Any suggestions before I add the photo to the group?

--This is also my first time linking to the photo on Flickr instead of just resizing it. The Flickr page says that you should copy the HTML to link to the picture, so that the photo will link back to its photo page. But I couldn't get the HTML to work, just the regular URL. Is this post against Flickr rules? If so, how can I get the HTML to work?

Also, I notice that the EXIF is not embedded in the URL version. Would it be in the HTML version?
Nice shot. The texture works very well here. Beautiful colours and exposure.
One thing I might change though is the position of the words. I would put them more to the left side so that they do not cover the words too much.

Posting like this is against the flickr rules. However, everyone does it this way. It is possible to post it in such a way that it links back to the photo's page on flickr. For that, you need to add the image, select it, and click the insert link button. You can then copy/paste the url of the image here.

If you think this takes too much time (I do ), you can also give a link to your photostream in your signature - that should be good enough - or assume they never check it anyway...

Thanks, Dennis! I'll look at moving the words more to the left.
Here's a trial of the "approved" way to link to pics ... I don't think I ever posted this shot to DCRP ...

    50mm, 1/90 sec., f/4.8, ISO 200
    <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/7297122@N07/1398725697/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1125/1398725697_1404f59cf3.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="Warm 0732" /></a>

edit: the picture doesn't show up, but clicking it opens just the image in a new window. I must have done something wrong. Can you give me more detailed directions? Not that I have to do it Flickr's way, I don't think they're checking but I'd just like to know how to do it.

I'd like to know how to do this also, as I haven't linked an image before. Btw nice image toriaj, really nice texture to it. I'm referring to your waterfall pic. But beautiful sunflowers too.

It does work, it's just not the "Flickr Approved Method" That's not the URL, that's the HTML. If I use the URL, which is http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1125/...1404f59cf3.jpg it does show up, but it doesn't link back to the Flickr image page, which is the way Flickr wants us to do it. Not a big deal, but I do want to figure out how to do it "their way" if I want to.

    [*URL="http://www.flickr.com/photos/7297122@N07/1398725697/"] [*IMG]http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1125/1398725697_1404f59cf3.jpg[/IMG] [/url]

This is what the code is supposed to look like. You have to remove the stars from the tags; I inserted those because otherwise the code would be the image.

The link to the actual image is green (between the IMG tags) and the link to the flickr pages is in blue (between the URL tags). Where you would normally type the name of the site you link to, you now have inserted the image, and thus the image links to the flickr website like in the flickr aproved method.

    It will look like this:

By the way, did you know you can change the URL of your photostream? You now can access your photostream with the link http://www.flickr.com/photos/7297122@N07/ but you can also change that to http://www.flickr.com/photos/toriaj/, which makes it easier for people to access.

Toriaj, the code should look like this:
    Code:
    [url()="http://www.flickr.com/photos/7297122@N07/1398725697"][img()]http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1125/1398725697_1404f59cf3.jpg[/img][/url]
    But without the ()'s

Inside (url="") tag goes the link to the photo page and inside the (img) tag goes the image link. Hope this helps.

Edit: Looks like Prospero beat me to it.

Wow, thanks to you both! That makes it perfectly clear. I tried it on another thread: http://www.dcresource.com/forums/sho...&postcount=426
and you're right, it took a lot of work!

And no, I didn't know I could change the URL of my photostream. Thanks for the tip, Dennis!
GabOrcinus, how do you get yours to link directly from the word "flickr" in your signature, instead of the whole address?

I thought I could answer your question since GabOrcinus isn't online. If I remember what I did, all you have to do is type in flickr, highlight it then click on the insert link button (below the smiley face) and copy in your flickr page URL and that should be it.

No problem Toriaj, I don't know that much about all this tech stuff. Thanks to Gab and Dennis for showing how to link from flickr. I don't know if I'll do it that way, seems a bit too much trouble. Happy shooting.
