D70,
I'm using an old D200, but I am going to try ISO1600 and one of my zooms in the next competition. Parents aren't allowed on the floor during competitions, so my 50 just doesn't have the reach and I end up having to heavily crop which makes the noise even more difficult to get rid of.
As for the DiamondSCattleCo, when I wrapped up my career as a business systems analyst, I moved back to the family farm where we've been raising cattle since the mid 1800s. My brand was a diamond over a backwards S, so Diamond S Cattle Co was born and I started using it from time to time. Also use PushRod on some other forums (nickname from a sideline business I had building performance diesel engines)
Tim,
Nope, yellow belt. He's only 8 I thought it was odd for weapons so early on, but I'm not going to argue with her. Not only would she easily beat the stuffing out of me, the Mikisew dojo is regarded as one of the best in Canada. Last year at the Worlds, 5 Mikisew students ended up bringing home 23 medals in 15 events.
There, now I've rid of all that pent up pride
Rod

Have you considered adding lighting rather than just throwing ISO and Aperture at the problem?

Not allowed flash at the events And most places we end up at, the parents are a long way away. Not sure how much my SB400 would help, even if I could use it.

Interesting history. Just wondering as the Diamond S brand is well known in Texas as well.
Definitely understand why shooting the competitions is so tough. An 85 f/1.4 or even f/1.8 would most likely help down the road. And I think most parents understand the pent up pride part as well.
Interesting also that the local dojo was named after a tribe in the Cree nation. The closest I've been to your neighborhood is Calgary, and only for 2 days on business.

Actually not named after the tribe, but mikisew means "soaring eagle" in Cree. The whole thing is rather odd actually: Norwegian sensei teaching a Japanese martial art in a Cree named dojo located in Rubber Boot, Saskatchewan, where a large percentage of the population drive pickups and call some kind of farm or ranch home.

Very international. Thanks for the clarification. The cool thing about these boards is that we have contributors from all over the place. In some cases places that don't have places.
Pickups, farms, ranches... Diamond S Cattle Co. Like I said... Texas... Norte

FYI, just read the PZ review of the AF-S 85 f/1.8. Some of the highest ratings I've seen...

Yup, I definately understand. Too bad you don't have a place up there that rents good glass. I definately miss Tempe Camera (Arizona). I could rent a 24-70 0r 70-200 f/2.8 for $35 a day.
