Something seems off in the shot. The pistil is not coming from the center of the flower and the kit lens is not going to give that shallow of dof.

rdog, help us out, what lens and pp did you do?

    K1W1,
I like the ballon shot, a lot of foggy misty weather lately?

btw: should of told me your name is Richard, it is a lot easier for me to type
then K1W1. My fingers get confused going back and forth between letters
    and numbers.

I used Picture project with the Brightness, D-Lighting HS and Sharpening at High checked in the Photo enhance tab.

I think I may have used gimp for additional sharpening on this one but not sure. Here is the info from the pic file:

This one starts to make me depressed if a look at it for too long.

I've got some depressing urban shots like that, somewhere. Surprisingly they make for good, character-filled photos, even though living there is pretty uninspiring.

A shot of Bennie taken a few minutes ago. Red-eye sucks, but I didn't want to miss the chance of taking the photo.

Speaking of cat photos, here is one of my new kitten Oliver that I shot tonight. It's my first try at some off camera lighting using the SB-800 triggered by the D-50 on board flash. Next time I'll work on not blowing out the white wall behind him. I thought it came out pretty natural looking though.

It was nearly dark ambient light in the room this evening. On board flash set to 1/16th power, just enough to trigger the 800.

Or do like I did and just paint the wall. Cute pic by the way.

    Keeping with the cat theme

I got thousands of cat photo's, they make great test subjects. Here is one of Gizmo loving up on her grass.
