The talent on here is amazing.
I'm a complete newbie and just got my DSLR a few days ago. Nothing too exciting but it snowed yesterday.
Just using the easy automatic shoot through viewfinder right now as it's all so overwhelming. I'm using a
Nikon D3100 with the basic lens that came with it.
This is outside my house and didn't want to walk far away from the door as I had visions of slipping and dropping my new camera:

spiralgirl, pics are great - take your time to explore the finer points of your camera
composition and framing your picture you can do - no problems.
Don't stress too much - take things one thing at a time - also, ask questions!

@spiralgirl: nothing wrong with those pics -- sharp, colourful and vibrant, and made me feel cold and hungry at the same time! You may like to learn about resizing your pics to say 1280 pixels wide (for landscape orientation) before you upload them, to save server bandwidth and storage space. It won't affect how they appear on our screens. There are many free and easy-to-use image manipulation programs which you can use to do this (including the one that came on disk with your camera), but the one I like is Irfanview, available from www.irfanview.com . It's very quick, and easy to understand and use.
@megtyler: so post a few and get that load off your mind!

I liked seeing the snow shot, nicely framed too. It's 30+ Celcius over here and I got half roasted standing in the sun today.
