A new pet for the kids.
My son wants to learn to ride and I had the opportunity of getting him this bloke. He's a little old and scraggly and blind in his right eye but he well trained and docile around kids. He's ideal really and seems quite happy in the back yard so riding lessons will start in the next month or so when school finishes for the year.

The other day I went (under protest) on what I thought was going to be a boring bus trip to see some native Australian gardens. The whole point about them was that they had been designed to only need minimal watering. Dry, dusty and colourless I thought -- how b-o-r-i-n-g! Well, not only was I wrong about that, but they were chock full of insect and bird life. One cotton bush in particular and the plant next to it caught my attention, for there was the life cycle of the Monarch butterfly laid out before me. I've been cheeky and combined four photos into one: the caterpillar; emerging from the chrysalis; newly emerged and drying out the wings (underside); drying out the wings (top side). All taken with my 18-200mm at 200mm; ISO 640; various shutter speeds and apertures.
Nikon D7000 and a bunch of Nikon stuff — oh, and some Canon p&s's too

Nice shot. I hope our non-Australian cousins get the joke!

Wow Sir Les. That's one great post up there. That should give Rooz a run for his money.
