for very good reason, they are brilliant.

id consider bumping your contrast way up though. the flatness of that mono conversion doesnt convey the energy that the shots deserve imo.

Saw TRAIN in concert last month in Chicago. Here's one of the shots I took at the concert.

    Thanks Rooz.

I might just try that. I was too concerned that if I heighten the contrast, it may lose the detail on his shirt and facial expression. I'll play around it more and see what I come out of it.

Thanks Alana for your comments! TRAIN is one of my fav bands. Their music is brilliant!
I have seen them 3 times in the last 4 months. Any chance I can see them in concert, I am SO there!

Here's another shot. Similar to the last shot but Pat has a different expression and so it gives the shot a totally different feel.

Another great shot, although I have to say I prefer the first one. I am always impressed with awesome concert shots, because I know it's such a tough environment to shoot in!

Don't think I have heard any of TRAIN's stuff - I'll have to check them out sometime!

Actually, sorry, I should probably introduce myself, I've been stalking this thread for about the past year (I got my first DSLR on NYE last year, a lovely little D40 - now I'm on to a D90), but could never quite bring myself to post. The quality here is so high, and I've been getting to know my equipment and hoping to be able to participate some day!

Anyway, here's a shot I took last weekend that I quite liked. Taken with my Phoenix 100mm Macro lens, which is a bit of an old piece of junk, but seems to do the job! Handheld, no flash (just strong sun).
