Well since Photowerkz is showing off his new lenses, I'll toss a couple up that I took with my new Sigma 70-200 that showed up a couple days ago. Pardon the noise though. Forgot I had the camera set to ISO 800

This ones a little soft and the lighting is so wrong, but the rats were having fun while I fixed fence...

    That's a beautiful image, Photowerkz.

The one thing I noticed since moving from Canon to the D700 was that tonal gradients in darker skies are sometimes very noticeable, especially when doing slight tweaking in post.

Does anyone else see this in D700 files?

domenic, very nice shot. i think you need to bump up the contrast a bit to make it really pop out. tis a bit flat.

absolutely. you get more shades in all aspects. that's just the ability of the sensor to distinguish light gradients in when you think its just "black". it is not however, a "nikon thing". i noticed this in the fuji s5 years ago and when using the MkII i noticed it specifically in the highlights, (mainly cos i was helping to shoot a wedding at the time). what im amazed at is just how much tonal separation you can get when bringing blacks/ whites back in raw.

all this talk about iso noise is such ROT. i detest how much time people put into talking about this rubbish. it has become almost the online definition of how good a camera is. how many times do you see a thread on a new camera and the only thing tested is iso performance ? screw that, give me DR any day. rendition of subtle tonal changes is a beautiful thing.

Nice, very dramatic. Have you tried pulling the saturation way down, just leaving a very matte layer of color on it?
