Rich, I was about, maybe 2-3 feet away from it cuz of the fence . I had to lean over forward to get closer and praying that it won't fly away (and that I don't fall over the fence and into the lake).
I haven't had much success taking shots with these buggers even when using the 70-300 VR. Just now that I was able to take my time and be more patient (and quiet). They're always so tough to focus especially when there's a slight breeze that shakes the branches nonstop.
Rooz, re the bird have you considered cloning feathers into the missing part of the wing?

You're getting beautifull colours out of that lens K1W1 (assuming you haven't changed anything else).

Gee, I get distracted by life for a few months and the standard in this thread shoots through the roof! Great shooting everyone!
Truly inspiring and humbling all at once. Fantastic variety too, from pano's, portraits, product/still-life/toys, sports, etc, talented use of lighting and clever pp'g etc, its all great!
Below, my humble contribution, a fairly ordinary sunset looking west over Rushcutter's Bay to a famous landmark (the dot in the sky is a helicopter):

Looks like a group of climbers are stopped for the group shot with the Opera House in the background just to the left of the summit (about half way between the flags and the crane).
