    eh, its a cheap TC so it focuses really slow, but it takes decent shots, they seem to loose some contrast though. You also really need to use it on a tripod or monopod, 400mm is pretty long.

    I think i might rent a nikon 1.7x TC just to try it out and see how much better they really are.

    brandon, assuming you have the af-d version of the 80-200, the 1.7tceII will not fit cos the rear element of the lens will hit the front element of the TC. the newer nikon TC's only work with af-s lens'.

    hmm thanks for the heads up! the tc will really hit the element? The back glass element is atleast an inch into the lens body.

    AF-S Teleconverter TC-17E II compatible with all AF-I lenses and the following AF-S lenses(then it has a chart)


    It doesnt look like it sticks out that far in this picture

    Ha! I think you are thinking of the old push pull version of the 80-200 I read somewhere that it doesnt AF with the but nothing about touching the back element
