It's not artwork but I like it in a funny sort of way. (Uncropped)
1/200sec is clearly not quick enough for a fast bug.
I should have used F/16 so most of my light came from the nearly instantaneous flash.

Here is another one that i think turned out alright. I love the "Still Life" created in the foreground of the photo with the cords, foot pedal and the play list and trunk on the stage.

Not bad for an absolute beginner. The first one looks WAY too overexposed. The second one isn't bad but you will quickly learn that cloudy days are your friend. As far as the rest a faster shutter speed would have done you well. Is it just me guys or does the baseball pic look like it has a bit of CA surrounding the uniforms?
To be honest, I would invest in a better lens. FWIW, I also shoot a D40x but I use the AF-s 50mm f/1.4 most of the time. Putting good glass in front of the camera made me WANT to shoot more. And we all know that practice does nothing but make you better!

Thank you. how much did you get your 50mm? is it Nikkor or a third party brand? what does CA mean? my understanding is 50mm is good for portraits. correct me if i'm wrong. another question. shutter speed is the f-stop right? not the number you can scroll all the way up to 4000?
sorry. read the manual but got me a little confused. HAH
