    Egret redux

    I was going to post some Egret pictures from a late afternoon session on Thursday. They weren't the greatest due to incipient darkness and clouds. Then I went out this afternoon.............

    Just a sample of what I shot in a two hour shoot.

    Thanx, DPR, Rooz. I was able to get within 20' feet at times. not at all spooky, unlike it's bigger cousin. The Herons won't let me get within 100' of them.
    Great group of kids DPR. 'S a good thing they aren't here in the US, the teachers would want them sent to shrinks for evaluation for tendencies to violence or something. That or they would be expelled or suspended.

    I like the ruffled feathers of the in-flight egret. Mostly herons here along the river and they are easily spooked. They usually see me before I notice them. I have much better success getting close in a kayak than walking the shore. Sometimes I can drift inside 40 feet. The egrets here are rarely close enough to the shore. If you want closeups of waders the place to go is Gatorland in Orlando. They nest in the trees on the island in the park. The gators keep egg predators away from the base of the trees. I have seen hundreds of egrets there. I need to go back with the DSLR someday.

    Rich... and Rich, great images. The Egret shots are a knockout. Definately some of your best (and that's saying alot).

    Dread. Always fun... guns and all. Even kids in Kalifornicus like playing with water and foam shooters (and a lot of paint-ballers as well).

    Man! I gotta get out on a shoot. Been too long.

    Yes, I suspect actual gun violence may have something to do with that.

    Tim;
    Nice pic of Angkor Wat with the palms.
    Rooz;
    That is only part of it. We have some PC types that think any type of fun that 'looks' violent means that those involved are going to run around hurting people. I think that we have a bigger problem with Cyber-bullying. PPL have been driven to suicide. (Sorry about the off subject rant, you pushed one of my buttons. Still friends? )

    I don't disagree with that. It's always a tough balancing act especially when clearly there is a gun culture issue. I suspect both sides of the ledger step over the line frequently which is why there is an absence of common sense and ordinary people get caught in the middle.
