lol After I read your first message, I checked through the AF Fine Tune settings and found that it was turned on and set to +16. I turned it off and took a couple quick shots before breakfast and it definitely looks better. I thought I'd reset everything to factory settings, but I guess that one doesn't get reset. I hadn't made it to that spot in Thom Hogan's D300 book yet (having a tough time reading his stuff. Why say in 10 words what you can say in 10 pages?).

After work today, I'll plant my 50 on the camera and do some fine tuning.

Thanks for taking the time to find the link. Much appreciated.
    Critique most definitely desired...

    Architectural survey photo #2

This is the Ellis house, owned by a local merchant family that has a home furnishings store in the city. I can't back up any farther than I have for this pic without falling off a hill. The property extends quite a bit further to the left but high hedges and fencing don't permit a good view. Everyone wants their privacy.

Great shot Falcon. Inspires me to head out and shoot some of the local Victorians.

There are a couple thousand Victorian style houses in Pacific Grove (West of Monterey). Many have been converted into B & B's. There is an annual open house tour in October each year.

Note to K1W1: Until 1969 Pacific Grove was the last "dry" town/city in California. Mainly due to it's settlement by Methodists in the latter 19th century.

Pacific Grove coastline looking east to Lovers Point (a favorite for artists).

Les, looks like the 18-105 (DX) according to the EXIF data. My go-to lens as well (can't conjure up the jack for a Nikkor 24-70 f/2.8).

Falcon, the D7100 seems to be doing well in the moire department. The 18-105 does surprisingly well on that 24MP sensor.

D70; Yep it seems better than the run-of-the-mill version of this lens, maybe I got an extra good one. Used it on the D7k quite a bit as well. I did have to fiddle with perspective a bit, a function of having to stand quite close to the house.

From my own experience it seems that from 18-75mm it works very well (on the D70 also), so at 24mm you were in the sweet spot.

85-105mm is typically not this lenses forte', but for a fairly cheap lens...

.... and crosses over nicely with the equally inexpensive 55-200 VR (or in your case the Tammy 70-300 VC).
