That's a fabulous shot mate.

Drove down the coast (about 16 miles from here) specifically to shoot the Carmelite Monastery, but decided to go a few miles further to the Carmel Highlands and Malpaso Cr. Bridge. If you are a Clint Eastwood fan you know that he named his production company after this landmark.

Tough lighting and long distance are not my friends. I ended up using my 50mm as I couldn't get enough shutter speed with my 2.8s. Bad or not, I had to share a shot of my 8yr old son's first karate tournament. He medalled in all three of his events, so he was tickled pink:



edit: Does anyone know if Flickr does odd things with pictures? I know my shot is fairly grainy, but it looks _much_ worse on Flickr than it does when previewing on my Mac.

Fast action and low lighting. You need to buy faster glass and hmmm... a new Nikon.
Let's see 2.8 isn't enough. You need a 85 1.4 and D800? D700 at least.

Which one is your boy? How long has he trained that he got weapon training already?

My boy is in black and he's first year. Sensei feels that weapons training early on is important. I thought it odd, but it appears to be the norm versus the exception (at least in the west).

Depending on the camera, maybe crank the ISO to 1600, then take out the noise in pp. add a dash of sharpening... voila'.

Since I don't know what camera you were using, maybe not.

I thought he had a black belt, 1st dan at least, to have received weapon training. Yes, I think it odd too; but again if his sensei feels he can do it then he can do it.
One thing for sure though, after a student get black belt he/she would find it more easier to pick up weapon technique which is advanced training.
