I haven't been following the D400 rumors. What is it supposed to offer?

Nobody knows but the assumption is that it will basically be a DX sensor of around 24 MP or maybe larger in a D600 sized body much the same as the D300 was to the D700. You would also hope that it has less emphasis on video and more on control for photographers.

I've got an off topic question, what car would you hire for a 5 week driving holiday of the USA, I had in mind a larger SUV similar to an Australian Toyota Land Cruiser. I figure the USA has a tendency for larger cars.

The photolab I use is having trouble with my D90 12.1 MP. Just wait till I send them 24MP files. LOL

True, to a point, although the trend continues toward smaller cars in general large SUV's are still prevalent. Most car rental places feature the likes of Chevy Suburban or GMC Yukon. Fuel prices vary greatly from state-to-state with California typically being about $.50 per gallon more (currently ~ $1.09 per liter. $4.25/gal.).

Don't know if you've ever been here. Any base plans yet? East Coast To West? Or vice-verse?

I've covered a large chunk of this country, flying and driving. It's as varied, as you would expect. Tough to cover in 5 weeks, so just pick some highlights and have a go at it. From New York City to the great Sequoias in CA. The Grand Canyon, Bryce, Death Valley. For the adults... Vegas (2 days max.). I could spend 4 days in Washington DC alone. Not sure how it would compare to Canberra...

It's a great country to visit, and for the most part, live in. I love traveling here... Still a few states to visit (seven I have not been to).

Just watch the movie "Vacation" before you go.

Handy hint: Get a quote from Alamo Rent A Car. I found them to be much cheaper than Hertz, Avis, Thrifty, etc. on a recent trip to Washington state. Brand new car, good customer service, no complaints from me.

Nice mantis! One of the most difficult insects to photograph, IMO. It's very difficult to get all of the interesting bits in the same shot. I like your DOF and the natural light.

Thanks all for the comments and unfortunately I had a rush of blood to the head and made the bookings today - without the benefit of your advice, sorry. That petrol price looks great, which is fortunate as I booked a gas guzzling Jeep Grand Cherokee L somthing-er-other.

I'm going from west (LAX) to east (JFK) but haven't properly marked it out on the map yet. Later on I'll start a thread with my preliminary ideas and you can all tell me what a nutter I'm being.

have only been to 11 states. There is definitely a lot to see and do here.
