For me the 7100 looks like a good buy. Sorry to disagree with those more expert than me but I find 6-7fps plenty fast enough for sports. I have gotten a number of nice shots even with my D3000 at 5fps. It just takes timing and knowing the action points of the sport you are covering. Frankly just burning the chip full hoping to get a shot seems a bit lazy to me. IMHO.

I used to get good shots with 3fps on my D50 but there is a heck of a lot of difference between what you capture at 7fps and what you get at 9 fps. As far as burning the chip is concerned that's rubbish. You only use 2 or 3 shot bursts (i.e. 1/3 of one second from the first to the last shot). If you do more than that you should buy a video camera.
Just to give you and idea this is 1/3 sec between the first and last shot. See how much action happens. At 7 fps the second shot would be closer in position to the last one in the series.
Sorry but it looked better with her in it, mmmm silicon.

Peek-a-boo, I'm a wild roo. Taken on last weekends bushwalk with my daughter.
Interesting the different perspective of my lens choice. I normally walk with the 300mm on the D300, this was the 105mm on the D800. I like the extra context it gave me.
