Thanks Phil. I believe I was using my Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 on the D70. Guess I should use it more on the D7000.

One of the few times that snow fell on the Superstition Mountains. Right place, right time, right lens.

I don't know what that was supposed to be. A giant bell? Nonetheless, the light coming through the gap makes it look liek a candle being lit.

You're right Tim, it does look like a birthday cake with a giant candle on it! Do you know what all the holes are for in the stone wall?

I don't know the real story behind the candle and I doubt if we can ever learn the truth whether that happened by design or accident. I will get back to it if I can find out more.

Yikes! I just realized that I have not mounted the Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 (older version) to the D7000. Did some quick sample shooting today and I'm starting to think that the 18-105 VR is not working correctly.

Anyone heard of focus or VR failure problems with the 18-105?

I need to take some additional shots, but it appears that the D7000 likes the old Sigma over the Nikkor kit lens.

What exactly is the problem with the 18-105 -- out of focus shots or movement blur? Have you tried any other of your Nikkor lenses on the D7000? Have you seen Tim Jackson's Nikon D70 site with its focus test chart? (http://focustestchart.com/) .

I thought I had focussing problems with my non-VR Nikkor 35mm f/1.8. Using the focus test chart proved the lens' focussing was spot on, and it was the operator (me) that was faulty!

Thanks Les. I have tried the 50 f/1.8 and the 55-200 which both seem to work better than the 18-105. I may have to download that chart and see how all of my lenses work on a tripod. The 24-70 just seems to give very consistant and sharp results in comparison. i.e. handheld I am confident in the results.

The Caption is "hands Up, Rocky". Trying to get pictures of the real raccoons around here can be hazardous. The little beggers get pretty feisty when you interupt thier dining (in your garbage can). Luckily no bears here... although there is the occasional mountain lion sighting. I think I've already introduced the neighborhood Turkeys. Marina... a wild and crazy town.

I've only just payed attention to your profile, what a crazy nice place to live. We see documentaries on it from time to time over here.
