Shrunk to 850 pixels for some reason it hurts my eyes too but it is SOOC no sharpening and better yet the large looks sweet.

Cropped to 6x4 vertical to reduce the vacant space
curves adjustment to slightly increase contrast and brighten her up a touch
sharpening (unsharp mask radius 1 strength 100% in photoshop) to bring up her eyes and hair
painted on a little blur on her right cheak (our left) which sharpened up too much

I like how subtle little changes can make such a difference in a photo. Thanks for explaining the changes you made.
Like the shot and the changes that DPR made helped it a bit.
I find that pics of people taken unposed and candid often give a greater insight into the real personality than formal 'Olan Mills' portraits.

I like this look for this particular image. It reminds me of the art you would see in the old, original Heavy Metal magazine. I think it needs some rotating to make the center building verticle though.
